Ro's Story
LEADER - ADVENTURER - NEUROSCIENTIST - SPEAKER
My leadership perspective has been forged through senior roles in high-pressure environments and the demands of ultra-endurance sport. These experiences revealed that true performance depends on how the brain responds to challenge and change. By applying neuroscience, I equip leaders to build resilience, sharpen decisions, and unlock their team’s full potential.
About Ro
My journey to this point has been shaped by diverse experiences in sport, science, policing, and extreme adventure. I began my career as a professional rugby player, but when that path closed, I went to university to study zoology. There I discovered a fascination with biology and physiology—how the body and mind respond to challenge.

After graduating, I joined the police and thrived in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. Over two decades, I witnessed firsthand how people respond differently under pressure and learned that my strength lay in leading teams. Guiding colleagues through complex and demanding situations became my passion, and I developed a deep understanding of how leadership can influence performance.

When I left the force in 2020, I searched for a new challenge that could replicate the sense of purpose policing had given me. That search led me to the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. In December 2021, I recruited a crew and rowed 3,000 nautical miles unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean in just 37 days. Once again, I was fascinated by how individuals reacted under sustained stress and how those responses shaped behaviour, teamwork, and outcomes.

These experiences convinced me that understanding how pressure and challenge affect the brain is central to effective leadership. Leaders must not only manage themselves but also harness these insights to unlock the potential of their teams. This belief led me to study neuroscience in depth, and today I combine science, leadership, and lived experience to help leaders operate at their best in a complex and demanding world.

A common thread throughout my career has been the realisation that positive leadership is the key to success in any organisation. The most effective leaders are those who recognise and meet the needs of their teams, creating the conditions for people to perform at their best. Often, this doesn’t require wholesale change but small, deliberate shifts in how leaders think, act, and communicate—shifts that can transform team performance and unlock untapped potential.

Today, I work with organisations to help their leaders overcome business challenges, build resilience, and create purposeful workplace cultures. I deliver this through keynote speaking, leadership summits, workshops, and strategy away days—each designed to inspire, equip, and empower. By combining real-world leadership experience with cutting-edge neuroscience, I provide leaders with practical tools and insights that drive lasting impact for both individuals and organisations.
